What We Sharpen — Flat Blades

What is a Flat Blade?

Flat Blades are characterized as being made of Steel–the type of steel varies by application, but in most instances a Flat Blade is made from some formulation of tool steel, typically not the same formulations of steel that are found in kitchen knives.

Flat blades do not have handles like kitchen, hunting, of meat processing knives, or like a Machete.  The have some type of mounting holes that allows them to be attached to the machine that will do the cutting.

Flat Blades are typically found in machines like Wood Chippers–residential and commercial–, Paper Guillotines, Plastic Granulators, and a broad category called Industrial Blades are found in many different types of machinery that needs to cut a product.

In most Flat Blade applications the blade is rectangular shaped and has one or two edges on the blade.  Notably in the Industrial Blades category Some Flat Blades have curved edges and require different machinery to be sharpened.

Most flat blades included in this category are 1/2″ or more in thickness of the blade.
